Just starting to process photos from June/July's trip. This is one of my favorites.

HOW SWEET IT IS

This is one of my favorite recipes from our 2012 Calendar: Lemon Black Sesame Cake with Wasabi Cream Cheese Frosting (developed by the brilliant Joe of course!). I never use wasabi, but I can't get enough of this frosting. I can eat a whole bowl. No joke.

So about this calendar... I've probably spammed your inbox or FB feed one too may times asking for your support without giving much of a story. (Sorry about that! Sometimes Most of the time I just let my excitement overcome me.) All this really is, is a personal project by Joe and myself. We truly just want to share our passion for cooking and photography (and butter!) with anyone who has an appreciation for things beautiful and delicious.

After weeks of brainstorming and testing and prepping, we worked over the course of one September weekend, finishing with a light Sunday supper and huge dessert feast with our friends - 12 people for 12 desserts, appropriately enough. (After this I lost my sweet tooth for about a week.)

I'll be honest, working and thinking about this calendar has consumed a majority of my dispensable time. But I loved it. And still love it. But the fun is over. What we have to do now is a lot of leg work. There is a far climb to reach our lofty goal next week. And with a time urgency this year, we're under pressure... so wish us luck. And help us spread the word. ♥

In the Make is a collaboration between photographer Klea McKenna and writer Nikki Grattan. Through studio visits with artists and designers, we hope to explore each artist’s space, process, influences, and the behind-the-scene elements that are often unseen in the finished work. We look to highlight the ways in which each artist’s personal aesthetic pervades their environment and reveals their perspective. We are also interested in the daily realities of making creative work and how each artist sustains their practice.
